– destigmatization and advocacy are at the heart of my programs –

People with psychosis have been short-changed for far too long. Traditionally in the U.S., treatment has been limited to hospital outpatient or community mental health clinics that:

  • Are housed in stigmatizing community buildings
  • Have unpleasant and at times—unsafe waiting rooms
  • Emphasize “illness” as opposed to promoting wellness

Additionally, therapy is typically provided by early-career clinicians, recently out of graduate school (or even still in graduate school on internships or externships,) looking to gain clinical hours before moving up and out to something else.

These clinicians are often not highly skilled or trained in evidence-based therapies. I believe that people with psychosis deserve better, and I am sure you’d agree!

The truth is, psychosis can happen to anyone. People with psychosis deserve the same as you or I: High-quality, gold standard, evidence-based therapy—regardless of ethnicity, religion, spiritual beliefs, sexual orientation, gender, or socioeconomic status.

Also, individuals with psychosis should have the right to choose their therapy location. This includes the option to attend therapy in stigma-reducing settings, such as a beautifully furnished office in an unmarked building, with a silent and safe waiting room.

Thus, it is my mission to train others who work with people with psychosis and to provide them with the skills to effectively and confidently support the wellbeing of their clients.

Introducing Dr. Sally Riggs

Do you want to work with individuals with psychosis but don’t know how to start?

Do you feel like your prior training didn’t adequately prepare you to work with psychosis?

Hey there, I’m Sally. As a licensed psychologist and trainer, I help mental health professionals like you develop the skills you need to confidently work with individuals with psychosis.

Unfortunately, most people don’t receive CBTp training in U.S. licensure programs. We can’t expect clinicians to feel confident in working with psychosis without skilled training and mentorship. And we can’t expect our clients to progress on their healing journey without skilled interventions from highly trained practitioners.

This training and therapy gap is why I developed my Comprehensive CBTp Training. I’m on a mission to provide clinicians with the resources they need to be confident in helping their clients with psychosis achieve their goals and live a full life.

What People Are Saying

Don’t take my word for it – here’s what my clients say:

Dr. Riggs is fabulous. I love her. She’s great. She’s ridiculously knowledgeable about this stuff and I’m really impressed with her. I’m really happy I stumbled across her website a couple of years ago. I’ve done a bunch of trainings with her and have learned so much and am super grateful for that.

Sheena Sikorski, PsyD, LP

Licensed Psychologist

North Memorial Hospital

I find Dr. Riggs to be extremely knowledgeable and appreciate her dedication to working with individuals with psychosis. She understands what it entails to provide care in public healthcare settings as well as private practice and how practicing might look different in those settings. This is very helpful because there are many providers who are only experienced in one or the other. She understands the challenges that clinicians are up against when working in public clinics.

Anonymous

It is difficult to find clinicians highly trained and skilled in the provision of CBTp, such as Dr. Riggs, and even harder to get ongoing, detailed consultations in a specialized community of such niche clinical interests. [this] provides a unique opportunity to do all of this, with individuals who are passionate about and invested in promoting top-notch services for individuals living with psychosis.

Marci Gaither, PhD

Psychologist

VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System

One of my favorite things… so far has been getting feedback and advice from Sally, who clearly has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in CBT for psychosis.” “I’ve really appreciated getting time with Sally to benefit from her experience and knowledge on the topic of CBT for psychosis. There aren’t a lot of opportunities out there in the US for training and consultation in CBTp, so it’s wonderful that she’s providing this service which is filling a gap in training and education in CBTp.

Allison Nelson-Eliot

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker

Sally is extremely knowledgeable and it’s very apparent how passionate she is about providing a good quality standard of care for people struggling with psychosis. It was really nice to be working with someone who’s so knowledgeable and passionate about this type of work. I’ve learned a lot from her. I still refer to some of the handouts that she’s given me. It’s been a blast.

Eehwa Ung, Ph.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Sally’s just great. I’m confident that I’m working with someone who really is an expert in this area. She’s one of the most ethically minded people I know in terms of being a practitioner. She’s very social justice oriented as well. Her level of competency is not what you see very often and so it’s really been great to have access to her expertise.
